A Tribute to Jarrah Kelton

Tuesday, 2 March 2010

Suzy Jarrat has written this touching tribute for Jarrah Kelton who passed away recently.

JARRAH KELTON

She was more than just a groom.  She was a girl who worked above and beyond the call of duty, never calling in sick, devoted to her job and loyal to her employers.  She was one in a million.

On Saturday February 6 Jarrah Kelton had a tragic car accident in Glenorie; she died from serious injuries sixteen days later.  Her passing has devastated the lives of her family, her friends and of everyone associated with the Dierks’ stable.

“Jarrah came from Canberra and lived and worked with us for nearly four years,” recalled Judy Dierks.  “Prior to that she’d been at PSI in Germany.  She cared impeccably for all the horses, would help to break them in and managed the whole complex like clockwork.  She was so good-natured and cheerful every single day – we are so sad without her.”

Capable in all facets of horse and stable management and in show preparation Jarrah was also a successful competitive dressage rider. She handled clients with courteous efficiency, was adept in managing the office work and willing to help anyone needing a hand

Despite possessing excellent horse skills she was keen to improve her knowledge immersing herself in equine text books and veterinary manuals – and she was learning German.

She was not an avid party goer and rarely went out – February 6 was an exception. She thought she’d drive a few kilometers and do something different that evening – meet up with friends at a local rodeo.  It was not to be.

Jarrah Rose Kelton is survived by her loving parents, Mark and Jane, and sister, Tessa.

She was 23-years-old.
